Art Post Part Deux

Here's part two of the huge art post. Looking through all these photos reminded me how different each piece is from one another. San Francisco is one of the tightest city ever because the population is so diverse and everyone has their own style. These art pieces for instance are all painted on walls in just one alley so it litetally embodies that.

I've still got gangload of photos from this photo session to post. I've also accumulated a whole other collection of shots of art and randomness that I'd love to share. It's quite late now for me now so I must get ready for bed. Fingers crossed I won't fall asleep as soon as I hit my bed so I can have a few minutes to read Lincoln's Virtues- An Ethical Biography :)

Time Is Too Expensive

Blogging has definitely not become a priority. It has been in my mind pretty much everyday though. I'm creating posts in my head and sometimes they actually get put in a notebook of ideas along with the other ten million things I would like to get accomplished someday. I feel completely out of the radar, I haven't read any blogs in months and just barely today I looked through the September issue of Nylon.

Yesterday I went to the salon to get my nails did and as I looked through a magazine while I waited my turn I almost had a heart attack when I read that Target's current GO International collection was none other than FUCKING MISSONI. Now, it was tight when Luella Bartley and Proenza Schouler did the same thing, but Missoni is a classic Italian fashion house; which means I would never be able to purchase an item from their collection because I'd feel extremely guilty for spending $1,000 on a skirt when I have a child. The thought of me being able to actually own a Missoni piece was too joyful, but then my comadre alerted me that it sold out in a day.

Lesson learned: I have to carve time in my schedule to be up on this shit, somehow. This is pretty difficult considering the fact that I bust my ass everyday and honestly the only thing I would like to do at the end of the day is put my ass to bed and get my beauty rest. So basically I'll be posting again in a month or so because who knows when I'll have time to do this again. Maybe before then I'll have the opportunity to read the September issue of Harper's Bazaar that's been sitting on my desk...

Opposites Attract

Really, really sorry Borders is closing. I thought at least they'd keep the one by my crib. Fuck, damn it technology. This seriously irritates me because going to check out new releases is fun. At least there's City Lights Bookstore. This reminds me of a recent conversation with a friend about technology fucking up the art of naturally making sound. This led to turntableism and how amazing and rare it is. Also the fact that it is so easy for anyone to be a musician and how scary that is.

Now, for something more pleasant, the promised art post. This is part one of at least two other massive art updates. Gosh it feels like I shot these ten years ago, but it was actually just a few weeks ago. The other day while chillen in da dopest city in the world, I noticed that many of the pieces on the alley located in the Mission District were new. I think I shot each and every one of them. Some I photographed again even though they were old because I loved them too much the first time I laid eyes on them.

I'm getting a wee bit ahead of myself, but I just can't resist looking through the Christian Dior 2012 Resort Collection.

I'm pretty content at the fact that long dresses will still be around next year. My closet has gotten plumper with my maxi dress section. Once I get a light in there I'll photograph it because it looks pretty dope right now. Everything is color coordinated and by style like I like it.

Before I forget, I went to check out Teatro ZinZanni and the whole experience was pretty surreal. It was like I was warped back to the late 1800's and I felt a bit like Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge. There is a strict no photo policy so I was unable to photograph the show, food (lobster tail!) and dranks I consumed (Bubbly and Pinot Griggio) but I can assure you that it was absolutely marvelous. I really liked the woman who sang opera because I've always secretly wished I could sing like that and to my damn surprise the lead actress la Madame was Joan FUCKING Baez!!! Amazing...

I've been thinking about getting shoes from Jeffrey Campbell and while looking through their website I came across their Fall 2011 Lookbook- Uptown Girl. My favorite fall looks were the psychedelic and snake skin prints, so fierce.

I don't think I could ever be a vegetarian, seriously. Looking through photos of some of the meals I've consumed over the past few months made me realize that I pretty much order seafood every time I eat out. Seven years ago when I stopped eating meat I thought about giving up seafood as well, but that thought remained in my brain for only a second.

As if I have time to read, but I can't resist from buying a great book when I see one. Here's my summer reading pile...

The other day I stopped at Kate Spade to buy glasses (I'm having the lens popped out and getting a super light prescription added) and decided to try on some gorgeous shoes.

I've always loved this brand because when I first got into vintage I was into the 1950's and Kate Spade is very much inspired by this era. I love the bold colors so much and not because it's a trend for summer, but because you can expect to see bold colors all year round from this brand. I could spend hours at this boutique, I left truly inspired to revamp my space at home.

Work has been kicking my ass for the past two months and it's been difficult to be a normal human being. When you add motherhood to the mix you have no time to do jack shit, but at last I am on vacation now and have a sec to post. I miss blogging dearly and I miss reading my fav blogs on a daily. Hopefully I will be able to post more often, even though I'll be working on a massive history project during the time I have off. My brain is a bit fried at the moment, but I totally wanna share my latest purchase...

I think I had a had a mild heart attack when I saw this, partly because he is so damn luscious and partly because I think it's hella tight. And speaking of R.R., did you know that the dude is a cross dresser??!!! Seriously, "Walking on the clouds, suspended in thin air, Do ones beneath me recognize the red bottoms I wear." This really threw me off because he's referring to Christian Loubotin Shoes, check em out...

It didn't sound quite right that he was talking about wearing ladies shoes so I did a bit of looking around in the Christian Loubotin website; which is pretty awesome btw, and discovered that the dude makes men's shoes as well and they are mad stylish. I'd mos def wear these if I was a man..

Went to the Zara store this past weekend and drooled over all their new shizz. I especially loved the pajama looking pants. If I'm still obsessing about em I may have to go back and get them. And even though I know that bright hues are hot right now it hit me when I was at the store that I don't have too many things in hot pink or orange. I have a bright blue dress that I'm going to have to fish out of my closet and try on and that could be my contribution to the trend. I'm a girl who wears a lot of black and leopard prints and I think it's time to venture out of my norm. If only it would stop being so damn icy and windy here in the bay so I can really dress for summer how it's supposed to be.

Award shows got nothing on the best red carpet event in my opinion- the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala. I look forward to this event because the guests are more adventurous and definitely classier. The top trends this year were definitely plumage, see through dresses and Stella McCartney has lots of friends because a huge chunk of the ladies wore her designs. I had lots of fun going through the gallery of partygoers and these are my most favorite.

Even when Beyonce is not wearing House of Dereon she still manages to choose horrid dresses to wear to red carpet events and pretty much every award show/performance. This makes me believe that she just has poor taste in clothing, but I do give her props for wearing her hair up and toning down the makeup because she would have looked like a total hot mess if she had opted for her usual mane of curls with this gaudy dress. And even though her man Jay-Z looks constipated in this pic, I like his tux.

I don't know where to begin. The prom hair circa 1992 is almost as distracting as this Alexander Mc Queen dress worn by Naomi Campbell. I want to love it, but it just doesn't look right and it doesn't help that I keep thinking about Bjork's swan dress?

I also had no love for this Tom Ford dress worn by Carolyn Murphy. It looks like lingerie, which would have been quite sexy, but that awful bow on the neck and overly ornate sleeves makes the whole look appear messy. I didn't know where to look because there was way too much going on, so my attention went to her date, the designer Tom Ford who looked quite handsome as always.

Props to designer Stella McCartney for wearing her own design, I would too if I could make my own clothes. Unfortunately this dress looks very awkward and big on her.

Somebody should have told Serena Williams that less is more. Don't get me wrong, she looks stunning in that dress but the hat?!!! You serious?!!

Isn't Kristen Stewart like 19 years old?!! Why did McCollough and Hernandez decide to put this poor girl in a dress that does nothing to celebrate the fact that she's a young lady? This is a miss for Proenza Schouler.

Karolina Kurkova looks like she is growing fungus in this Gaultier Paris dress. I have no love for this look at all.

Fashion Is Art

This is art in motion. John Galliano is really an artist. It makes me sad when I see his last collections because the house of Christian Dior won't be the same without him. Apparently for the Spring Couture 2011 collection he was inspired by the fashion drawings of René Gruau. The illustrator worked with Christian Dior in the forties and fifties to create the drawings for his collection. I did a lil research on Gruau and here are a few of his drawings, amazing...

On another note, I think it's awesome that Kanye is getting hella attention for wearing a women's shirt via the Celine Spring 2011 collection. I like that, he's got balls and the man looks good.

I gotta burst your bubble though because male musicians have been wearing lady clothes for a while now, take for instance...

Review: The Conspirator

I got to see the Conspirator on opening night, April 15th; which coincidentally happened to be the 146th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's assassination. I was very moved with a lot of scenes, in particular the part when John Wilkes booth gives his horse's harness to the man outside Ford's Theater, the scene when Lewis Powell breaks into William Seward's bedroom and he is lying in bed recuperating, both because I knew what was about to happen next.

But what was most emotionally moving and sad was when Lincoln's body was taken out of Ford's Theater and across the street to the Peterson house. It was also really amazing to see how authentic the bedroom where he was taken was to the actual room. The bed where he was laid out was an exact replica and it really affected me when the camera focused on his feet dangling from the bed. Abraham Lincoln was a very tall man and his body had to be laid diagonally across the bed because it wasn't long enough.

The film focused on the conspirators of the assassination plot, in particular Mary Surratt. Before watching the film I studied a bit about her because her story is actually very unique. She is the first woman to be put to death by the U.S. Government. I believed that Mary Surratt was punished severely for her connection to the assassination of the president, but after the film I really felt bad for her. I've also read plenty about Edwin M. Stanton's role/ crusade to capture and punish the conspirators, but I did not realize how merciless he really was. I think he was, alike the majority of Americans pretty pissed off that Abraham Lincoln was killed and he acted out of emotion in determining the outcome of her trial in particular.

I don't blame him for being so angry and wanting justice for the horrible acts that were done by the conspirators, but I do think that everyone deserves a fair trial and that was pretty much the point of the film. The constitution was written for the purpose to protect people from their government. Our Founding Fathers after all fought so hard to rid this country of tyranny.

This was totally worth watching and I'm happy that yet another film about Lincoln will soon begin production. It's directed by Steven Spielberg and it's based on the book Team of Rivals!! Daniel Day-Lewis who in my opinion is the best contemporary actor will be playing Honest Abe himself, yipppeee!

Got her toes done up with her fingernails matchin'

Gotta keep my look fresh all day long and this includes clean freshly painted nails and toes. I decided to take a short break from the acrylics and this is how I'm rocking my shizz at the moment. I decided to go for a bright red and threw a dash of sparkle on just one nail.

I went through my photo archive and found a few shots of some of the different ways I've done my nails. A lot of people thought I rocked the turquoise because of the hockey team the Sharks, but this is not the case.

Again, these nails got a lot of attention because it reminded people of the Sharks, but I got em because it reminded me of Van Gogh's "Starry Night..."

I rocked my "Starry Nights" for a while as you can see. They were mos def my favorite design and I had fun transforming them from just tips to the whole nail design being covered by the glitter. I've been wanting to cut up a $100 and get them done with the paper because the ghettofabness would be fun, but I haven't had the balls to do it.

The Conspirator

Feeling super giddy to see this next Friday!!!!!! The story is about Mary Surratt who was the first woman to be hung by the U.S. Government after being prosecuted for being involved in the conspiracy to assassinate Abraham Lincoln. The decision to hang her was very controversial during the time because she was actually not directly involved with the assassination, but the government still found her guilty because John Wilkes Booth and the team he recruited to go through this plot held many meetings at her boarding house and supplies were also kept there. I know this film is going to be amazing because the events that followed his assassination were quite exceptional. This was the first time the government was faced with such an event, the killing of a president and even though the country was divided during his presidency about his popularity, his death elevated his image to that of of sainthood. Yes, I'm obsessed...I also came across another book I want to add to my list of must reads. This one is about Lewis Thorton Powell who was recruited by Booth to assassinate the Secretary of State William Seward. Powell did not succeed at killing him, but he did cut his face pretty badly and hurt four or five others who were at Seward's home the night of the attempt, which happened to be the same time when Abraham Lincoln was shot at Ford's Theater. I'll be writing a review about the film, I'm sure it will be legit because Robert Redford is a pretty tight director.

What's in a Bag?

It's been a minute since I did a post about what's in my bag. Currently I am sporting a vintage straw purse from Korea, which I have to say it's about time!!!! Seriously, the weather was so horrible two weeks ago, but it flipped this past week and the bay has been enjoying hot summer days. I don't know about you, but I like to carry a book in my bag so I can squeeze in a few pages if time permits. I'm the kind of person that reads two to three books at a time, in addition to all the fashion magazines I get in the mail each month. It takes a long time to get through each thing because I don't have the luxury of having down time on a regular basis. Down time might consist of 30 minutes before I pass out for the night after an exhausting day of working full time and being a mom. The gotta-have essentials are gum, a pad of paper and a pen because you just don't know when a good idea might come to ya and you need to jot it down before you forget, especially me, I have the poorest memory ever :( I also carry a compact and my current new obsession which is lip liner pencil and my usual chocolate brown, pink or red lipstick. These days I am wearing dark brown lipstick from Clinique and brown lip liner pencil from LA Colors. Another essential is the lip balm and lighter because you never know when you need to start a fire and this gurl was never a Girl Scout so you know I won't be trying to start one with sticks and straw! Finally, I have my Kenneth Cole Reaction wallet and glasses that I recently purchased at their SF store.

Rain Rain Go Away, That's What All My Haters Say

Went to check out a rad dj called J.Rocc a few weeks ago and I must say I was quite impressed. I tend to be a super hater when it comes to music because I get bored. Well, actually to be honest I get bored of everything, but music is a main love and I like when djs mix cool shit and J.Rocc mixed super tight hip hop, soul and disco-all favorites of mine. I really did not know anything about his music and I went just for fun and after reading a bit about him online I found out that he is an original turntablist and that pretty much explains why he sounded so good!

I was so lucky that it wasn't raining ferociously that night because I did not want to get soaked. It's also not cool to take an umbrella to a show because you have to carry it the whole night so I was pretty stoked that I did not have to babysit that shit. It's impossible to tell because the photos are in black and white, but I am wearing my rainbow snake skin boots and this super awesome cream lace dress that I found for $5 at Target.

I was going through a bunch of photos and I came across these from a super fun/fancy birthday dinner party that I attended last month. The restaurant was on a hill and the view was spectacular.

The food was alright. I ordered the Capellini Diablo with giant scallops and I knew I should have picked the catfish because I wasn't sure if I was a fan of cream marinara sauces. Lesson learned, definitely trust your gut, but that gives me another excuse to go back, dress up and pop a bottle of champagne.

Paris Fashion Week Looking Good!

Goodbye John Galliano

John Galliano is the biggest fuck up of the year and it's only March. Seriously, just thinking about him makes me so sad because he is so talented and I was such a fan of his work. This guy is an artist, he is so creative and his shows are always my favorite because not only does he have amazing clothing to show, but the models are styled to perfection and the whole thing is a full blown production with music, lights and effects. John Galliano had one of the most prestigious jobs in the fashion world, he designed for Christian Dior. Even people who don't follow fashion are familiar with the fashion house, Dior is a very powerful force and Galliano's career is over after they fired his ass for saying pretty fucked up anti-semitic things in public. From what I know his rants were caught on video so this guy was pretty much done after they became public.

There are two ways at looking at this situation. John Galliano is probably a Jew hater or he simply thinks it's funny to say offensive things, but doesn't really feel that way about that particular group of people. Let's just say that he is a funny man who likes to fuck around with his buddies at bars and go too far with his jokes (the offensive rants happened at a bar). I'm sure you've all experienced this, we all have buddies whose jokes are funny, but at the same time they make you cringe. If you can't relate think of Ricky Gervais in The Office.

The problem with saying stuff like this in public is that someone might overhear the comments and won't know that the person's humor is like that. That could either trigger something in the spectator that will make them think that it's okay for people to say stuff like that or it might offend the person. The situation gets a lot more tricky when the person saying these comments is someone of power, in this case John Galliano who is a celebrity and because everyone has a cellphone with a video camera these days it is very simple to record someone saying or doing anything. That is exactly what happened in this situation and now the whole world's perception of Galliano is that he is a racist fuck and it doesn't matter that he is a fashion genius.

A multi-million dollar company like Christian Dior obviously does not want to be connected with such image and Galliano was booted as head designer. I wonder what Galliano is thinking right at this moment? I bet he's probably sorry as fuck that he said something completely inappropriate that caused his career to plunder forever. If you are as powerful as Galliano how do you redeem yourself from something like this? How can you convince the masses that you are sorry and that you are an idiot for saying stuff like this in public? Homie needs to visit the Museum of Tolerance and donate his estate to the Jewish History Museum in D.C. You really fucked up Galliano and I don't feel sorry for you. R.I.P. to your career.

I missed the Academy Awards last weekend because I was invited to the Ryan Leslie show in the city. I had no idea who this person was, but I decided to be a good sport and check it out. It was quite disappointing that this fool had the people wait like two hours for his lame ass to come out. The dj who played while we waited did play the TLC song "No Scrubs," and that made me happy, but Ryan Leslie sucked and I did not enjoy any minute of it. Sometimes I feel like a hater, but I remember having so much fun at shows back in the day and music was a lot tighter. Public Art I Love Thee

A few weeks ago as I was driving up the hill on Haight and decided to stop and photograph these murals because they were just too beautiful.

I was lucky enough to catch two artists in action. They were super nice and let me take their picture. I wish I could tell you more about them and what they're about, but I lost their card!!!!!! Next time I chill on that hood I'll stop by and peep on the wall for their names.

The house was drawn on a small piece of paper and was glued onto the wall. I appreciate when artists leave their calling cards on random spots, this one not so random I guess since it's pasted onto a mural.

The koi fish are stencils on the sidewalk. I've also seen them in the Mission District where the art alleys are at and on the corner of 16th and Market right on the Castro District. I'm pretty sure there are at other spots in the city and I just haven't come across them.

I've said this a million times, but I just love this city because stuff like this is everywhere!!!

I'm loving the hair for the Betsey Johnson Fall 2011 Ready to Wear collection. It would be awesome to see this take off as a hair trend.

I've been playing around with my look recently, trying to spice things up. I've always done black, but I think I'm done with that phase and frankly it makes me look way too pale. I took the plunge after New Years and went to my favorite salon and got it dyed orange! The pigment has washed off in the shower a lot since it's not permanent, but I'm pretty pleased with the transformation...

You know what's completely bananas? The fact that I have zero time to go online and do this. If you're a parent and work full time you have very little time to just fall back and chill. I'm not complaining, I'm just saying this is why it's taken ages to do a proper post. I did have the luxury two weeks ago to have an impromptu photo shoot for my online shop, which will be up on Etsy. The shop has been a goal of mine for the past three years at least. Why it has taken me years to accomplish this I have no idea, but then again I have so many things on my to-do list it's not so much of a surprise. The shop will offer vintage, vintage inspired pieces and jewelry. The clothing in the first batch of items that will be up for sale in February are straight from my closet, check it out...

I've decided that there will be no food blog and instead I'll be talking about food here. I'm teaming up with a super savvy techie to pimp the shit out of this blog and organize it into categories- food being one of them. Before I take off to make money I must tell you about the amazing book I am currently reading, Bloody Crimes. This gem is about Abraham Lincoln's funeral and the chase for Jefferson Davis. I am a fan of James L. Swanson, who has also written Manhunt, this man is a genius!!!!!!!!!!! There's too much to say and a whole post about his books will have to wait for another day, but I will tell you that if you LOVE to learn about Abraham Lincoln you will appreciate how this dude writes.

The thought of a thick Arrabbiata sauce, a slice of raw or cooked salmon or the bitter taste of dark chocolate makes me wanna sing like Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music (another obsession btw). It's safe to say that I eat home cooked meals during the week and dine out every weekend in the search of that perfect meal of whatever my tummy desires at the moment. It's also a fact that I photograph my eating experiences and engross in deep conversations about ingredients and preparation with friends and family that adore food as well. For some people dining is something that you do, but for me dining is an event! For this reason I am starting a food blog! I have the material, but the name I am still unsure about. Oh what to wear on these fall/winter days? Personally I adore piling on the faux furs, which totally reminds me that I have a faux fur Russian style hat from H&M that I purchased a few years ago. I must fish that out of my closet. Thick tights are also a necessity in this treacherous weather (Alaska and New England people this is the part where you laugh because California doesn't have icy cold weather compared to what you must be accustomed to.) The tights + ankle sock combo has never been attempted in my part so this could just be the year I try this. I'm still on a prostitute high platform vibe so I think I'll be wearing my tall Dollhouse leather boots on a heavy rotation as well.

I've got a wedding to attend next month and this is what I am planning to wear, well the much cheaper version that is. Lately I've been into simple styling. I think this has to do with the weather being so hot and also with the fact that I feel a bit more mature, I am after all a mother now. I've been relaxing with the bulkiness of accessories I usually prefer and choosing one piece of jewelry to wear at a time. I've also been toning down the makeup. Burgundy lipstick and nail polish may not be the traditional notion of simple makeup, but I've had moods where I've packed on the eye shadow and fake lashes to complete a look. Less is more. I never thought I'd even be saying/typing this and I may change my view tomorrow, but today my mind is a bit less complicated.

I remember when shit wasn't complicated. When I could do whatever the hell I wanted without any regard. Well this isn't all true exactly because I've always had limits. Every time I think about this I remember my favorite book of all time, the book that changed my life, PLEASE KILL ME: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk. I read this book because I was obsessed with the Velvet Underground and the Ramones, which is a sweet phase that young rock n roll fans go through in life- you're young and you think that people don't understand you, you think that you're always right and you listen to "dark" music about suicide and drugs. You're also probably obsessed with Wes Anderson and you watch Ghost World everyday, I know I did.

This is one of my most treasured books because they're a bunch of interviews chronologically put together about the birth of this awesome music genre. The characters to name a few are: Nico, Marianne Faithful, John Cale, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Dee Dee (my favorite Ramone) and the Godfather of Punk himself Lou Reid. Lester Bangs who coined the term punk and edited the magazine with the same name compiled this book. Of course as I was reading it I did not know who a lot of the people being interviewed were, but Bangs is such a genius to add a glossary of all the characters's names along with a short bio.

Please Kill Me tells it how it is- it's totally uncensored and you pretty much learn not only about the history of punk, but also who fucked who and who died from going overboard.

Speaking of going over the edge my favorite punk rock couple is: Sid and Nancy, RIP to the both of you. Nancy died of a stab wound and Sid of a drug overdose on a separate occasion. Sid's suicide note read, "We had a death pact, and I have to keep my end of the bargain. Please bury me next to my baby in my leather jacket, jeans and motorcycle boots. Goodbye.." Sad-Romantic and grimy as hell because this dude had 100% heroin in his body.

Seriously, this book will make you think about life as a precious gift. I'd say that 80% of the people in it died due to some stupid shit like drugs or chocking on their own vomit. Not cool at all.

Makes Me Happy

Two weeks ago I found myself at Outside Lands Music Festival at Golden Gate Park. Being at the park brings back tons of memories- my first and last 420 celebration, the birth of the Peace Circle, and a midnight walk through the park playing hide-and-go-seek behind bushes and trees. I also remember being there two years ago at the first ever Outside Lands Music Festival with the coolest cousin ever who I had just met a week prior to.

This year the lineup was alright. Honestly, I looked up almost every single act the night before and added my picks to my Outside Lands App (which sucked btw!) I was there to see the Strokes perform and everything else would be extra music goodness. Watching them while screaming their lyrics at the top of my lungs reminded me how fucking awesome they are. I wasn't the only one singing like my life depended on it and it hit me that even though they have not released an album in four years, thousands of people came to see them play old material.

The Strokes rule, really.

The year was 2000 and they popped into the mainstream sphere via MTV. Check it out...

I don't remember the exact moment when I first saw this gem, but I am sure I shit my pants because I was so damn happy that something had come at last to replace the bullshit that is 90's rock (I love you Nirvana). Music critics call the Strokes and the bands that came right after (The White Stripes, The Hives) the "Garage Rock Revival." The sound is old indeed- the instruments they used are vintage and the way this new genre was recorded was very raw and pure. The Strokes are pop in every sense where their music is simplistic and catchy, but it's most definitely rock n roll. It's also not in your face aggressive, thank God because that is totally overdone. It's also extremely awesome that Julian's voice is reminiscent of Jim Morrison's.

I have so many amazing memories seeing them live. Prior to Outside Lands they played at BFD, which is this music festival in the Bay Area. They were one of the last bands to perform and by the time Julian Casablanca's, the singer went onstage, he was fucked up. He had this huge white cooler full of booze with him where he proceeded to take from throughout their set. It was a special one alright because they played all of their singles from the most recent one at the time to "Last Night."

There was also the time they played at the Concourse located in San Francisco. I think that was the time I saw how badass Nick Valensi was. This dude had the tightest solos and I could hear exactly that he was influenced by Slash. I was also standing on the right side front, squeezed in between tall dudes, but everyone was jumping and singing along so I did not care. I also remember my homies kicking some punk's ass for talking shit, ha ha!

Three studio albums and an EP makes it impossible to pick my favorite Strokes song. Frankly, it feels like having to choose your favorite child, but I die every time I hear this one, especially the music at the beginning...

I know, I'm kinda late on this but it deserves obsession from my part. This couple is just too awesome. Not only is Jack White the best contemporary musician, but his wife Karen Elson is one of the coolest models ever. I love that they finally decided to be photographed together like this, it was about time. Her hair is also totally amazing!!! I've been wanting to dye it that same exact hue for two years now, but I'm a bit scared it might turn copper like last time I did. It wasn't that cute let me tell ya!

When I first heard "California Gurls," it was on MTV and it was the music video. I thought: what the hell, Snoop is supposed to be a gangsta...I watched it again today and I think the whole thing is pretty tight. I don't really know Katy Perry's music and even though the song is pop as hell, it's definitely cute and I can't hate on that.

Awesome things about the song: it's about California girls and Snoop is in it. Loving the video because: of the Candy Land theme, the colorful wigs Katy and the ladies wear, their glittery eye makeup, and then there's the cupcakes, lollipops, gummy bears, cotton candy and other sugary treats. The whole video is really a little girls dream come true!

Girl With Green Eyes and Miu Miu Rocks

TCM is da shit, seriously. The other day I happened to catch Girl With Green Eyes. The film had already started, but I decided to watch it because the main actress, Rita Tushingham has the most unique look.

The film is directed by Desmond Davis who I've never heard about. The story is kinda sad because it's about Rita's character Kate who falls in love with an older man, Eugene played by the actor Peter Finch. She's a girl from a village living in Dublin with her roommate. Her youthful energy attracts Eugene and she is thrilled by his maturity, but their love doesn't really work out because the age gap becomes a problem. I seriously wanted to cry when I saw this because I really wanted them to be in love and together, but it didn't work out in the end because they are just so different in regards to where they're at in their lives.

The film poster is kinda sad because it totally embodies how Kate feels about him. She is totally engrossed and wants to be part of his life so badly. Tears....

I've died and gone to heaven, seriously. This collection is amazing! It has a bit of some of my favorite things: the 40's, 70's, stripes, polka dots, cute patterns (apples), sky high platforms and super cool jewelry. The styling is also very pretty, voluminous hair and red glossy lips are always a plus. I also like how different patterns are mixed, I'm definitely into that right now.

Lately I've been keeping it minimal with the accessories though, maybe it's the heat? Something about feeling super hot and having a lot of stuff on you is not really appealing at the moment. Don't get me wrong though, I love my jewelry, especially stacking up bracelets and big earrings. Here's a recent outfit shot, it was sorta windy that day.

Hello, Again

I'm back like a heart attack! Hello blogsphere, it's been a minute. Plenty has happened since I last wrote: marriage and baby! It has been incredibly overwhelming and life changing, but wonderful and joyous at the same time. It's totally awesome being a wife and a mother, I feel pretty special! I don't really share details about my personal life unless you're in my tight circe of family and friends so forgive me if I digress from giving you the full scope.

There are a million things I would like to talk about and the hard part is choosing where to start...

Films. I used to view them on a regular basis, but for some reason it's difficult to motivate myself to watch one these days. There was a period when I watched a Hitchcock film everyday and knocked out about half of his filmography.

My favorites are Marnie and The Birds. Marnie is about a young woman who has some troubles, one of them is being distrustful of the opposite sex. It's pretty interesting because it's very psychological, but then again you can say that about all of his films. Marnie is also cool because it was the last film that Bernard Herman did the score for.

The Birds has the most crazed out scenario- when birds attack humans! Honestly, it can't get better than this and the best part is that it was shot here in Northern California. The Birds is seriously freaky, I highly recommend it.

It's not my intention to be a terrible blogger, the truth is that my laptop died. So much has happened since I last wrote: Valentine's Day, Mc Queen's death, watched a few great films- Good Heart and A Single Man. I've also started working out on a regular basis, which has been really nice actually.

I wish I could write a kick ass post, but I can't upload all all the photographs I've accumulated to this shitty computer and since I'm a visual gal I gotta give you a photo with a story. Maybe I will get my laptop to work again, or perhaps get a fat tax refund and I can purchase a new one.

Only time will tell.

I nearly creamed my pants when I saw this at the bookstore the other day. I love this lady, she is so BEAUTIFUL and she is MEXICAN!!! I dig her look, her tattoos are specially classic and awesome in black and grey and her hair is flawless!!!! My favorite photo is probably the second where she is the Mother Mary pose, she looks like an angel! I regret not ditching work a few months ago when she was at B&N in San Francisco signing autographs for a book she was promoting. On another Kat note, has anyone tried her makeup line? I don't own it, but I tried the tattoo concealer on my tattooless wrist and it is amazing! I would apply it under the eyes after a night of heavy partying because it's made to hide anything!

Mostly Gold Stars at Grammy's

This year's Grammy's were a great departure from the usual garbage that is worn at this particular award show. I don't know if you've noticed, but many artists usually opt to wear semi dressy at the verge of being casual clothes and it's no fun for someone like me who watches award shows mainly for the fashion. I was very impressed at how beautiful and elegant most of the musicians looked like, but there were in fact two people that were dressed so miserably it hurt my retinas....

Damn, did they look like shit! I wonder if Britney has gone back to the unfortunate decision of dressing herself and not hire a personal stylist. The girl needs one 24/7 because she dresses like a hick! I can't really recall what Ciara has chosen to wear at previous award shows, but honestly...WHAT THE FUCK WAS SHE THINKING?!!!!

And for my top favorite Grammy look........I am in love with this Elie Sabb Haute Couture dress! Rihanna, who for the record I think is one of the MOST ANNOYING contemporary singers, looked GORGEOUS, CLASSY, and well put together from head to toe (I don't know what her shoes looked like because the dress was floor length, but I am going to assume they were as awesome as her dress). I appreciate the detail of the draping, the ruffles, feathers and I really dig the sleeves (hot trend for the next season)!!

Valentine's Day Outfit

For a very special Valentine's Day this year with the most beautiful man in the world! Too bad I'm not ballin' yet, otherwise I'd be all over these ASADEI BLACK SUEDE pumps, so sexy! Hopefully this dress fits me because I would like to have it for a very special romantic Italian dinner. My body is changing so much, it's difficult to find clothes that don't make me look terribly fat so we'll see how this looks. I know that if it does not work out I'll probably be able to find something else at F21, if not I will go with a back up which is a vintage black dress I own with tiny diamonds on the sleeves and cleavage (gasp)!

The 40's, Feathers and Big Hair

What am I loving now? The Golden Age collection from Urban Outfitters. This is usually not my style, but I can't stop thinking about how awesome these looks are! I think I'm just thinking about simplicity and toning it down a bit for the Spring (less black and animal prints) but mostly because I'm ready to be able to wear cute shorts like these.

I don't know who Marion Cotillard is but I am totally obsessed with the outfit she wore to the SAG Awards. The dress is amazing, the color is hot and the feather detail at the bottom is super fun. I've secretly been thinking about owning a dress with feathers on it because I don't really see too many gals wearing something like this aside from super fancy posh events via style.com. Aside from Marion's great dress were the shoes!! Gawd damn they are perfect! I love a good platform and I can't wait to be able to wear big shoes like these again!

Lastly, the Chanel Couture 2010 collection is lovely and everything that Chanel is, but the hair is da bomb! The crazy volume is excessively perfect with the giant bow right in the middle, bam! I don't know if I'll ever be able to duplicate this do because I am not gifted when it comes to styling my hair, but maybe I can do something similar with half of my hair up and the rest down.

Lovely at the Golden Globes

I enjoy watching awards shows for the red carpet alone. There are two events in particular that I love, the Academy and the Golden Globe Awards. I think the fact that the women dress in the finest designer gowns is why I look forward to watching them year after year. Last night's Golden Globes were the highlight of my evening indeed. These are my absolutely favorite looks of the night.

Drew Barrymore in Atelier Versace. I think it's safe to say the trend of the Golden Globes was the one shoulder dress: Kate Winslet, Jennifer Aniston, Anna Kendrick, Joan Allen and Amy Poehler opted for this. I especially loved Drew's one shoulder dress because it was the focal point of her look and it glittered!
Julianna Margulies in Narciso Rodriguez. This lady looked
so hot in this dress! It was fitting and the red was absolutely the perfect detail to the black dress because it had sparkle. Because her dress had that detail she wore black tiny earrings, which I thought was brilliant.
Chloë Sevigny in Valentino. This dress looked beautiful on TV. I loved the detail of the ruffles and I was particularly drawn to this because I've been eyeing soft, girly, pastel pieces. I think ever since I saw the powder peach dress from H&M I've been thinking about looks like these, I'm so sad I did not buy it because it was perfectly beautiful and it was only $40.

The best dressed in my opinion was Christina Aguilera, wow she looked so lovely! I loved her whole look because it was classy and youthful. I've never been a fan of her fashion choices because they've been super tacky, but this totally redeemed all her monstrous choices from the past. Her haircut was so cute too! She is a beautiful woman indeed and her dress was a piece of art, the color and the amazing detail on the bodice was totally wonderful. This dress fitted so well on her it was like it was made just for her and that's really how a dress or an article of clothing should look on a person.

Damn, I need a sugar daddy...

I really want acid wash jeans. Been wanting them for a long time now. Too bad I can't fit into pants from Forever 21 because I would be all over these. The shoes are totally hot as well. Shit, the whole look is perfect actually.

OMFG! This dress is effing awesome! I would wear it with my thigh high black suede boots from Chinese Laundry. This top also makes me quite happy, I NEED it! Gosh I can't wait for finer weather, it's been chilly and it has also started to rain, not crackin'!

There's something about cuteness that drives me nuts. I think I have the same exact tastes as I did when I was in the sixth grade. I remember when Sanrio opened a store in my city and spending every Sunday allowance on something from there. So when I got an iphone a few days ago I knew I had to pimp it with a Hello Kitty case. I happened to snatch the last Tokidoki for Hello Kitty case at the mall, love this collection...

And then there's my planner, cuteness all around!

I've had this jewelry case for six years or so, it's Monkichi! This is the ideal case to take on a trip, it's small and you can pack a lot of jewelry.

And since I'm obsessing about cuteness, I love my new Betsey Johnson earrings.

And the perfect hair accessory is a hair pin just like these. Small, simple and CUTE.

Update of the Future

When you let so much time pass by without a proper post and so much happens it's difficult to recap everything so the December post will have to remain in my memory. I'm sorry I'm in a bit of a lazy mood and the fact that my laptop takes ages to upload iphoto is another factor to my lack of motivation to share all those photographs with you. Worst blogger in the world I know. I'm sure the photos and the memories will come up on the blog in the future, but for now I'll just share about the present.

I'm having a baby boy in May! I feel so blessed and exited to be a mom and I can't wait to have my little one in my arms. I wanted to give an explanation before you start noticing my bump. You can almost miss it unless you catch me from the side!

December, you're almost gone! Every December is very eventful: my birthday, Christmas and my sister's birthday. There's also the last days at work and the Christmas shopping, seeing and visiting old friends back home for the holidays and tons of fun parties. This December has definitely lived up to all of it's expectations.

My birthday was beautiful and wonderful. I have the most awesome man, friends and family and I was reminded of their kindness and love on this special day. I would like to write a proper post about this because I have tons of photos to share and I know I will take many more at Christmas so I would just like to say happy holidays to all of you. I wish that you spend it with the people that you love the most and in a very warm place.

So how awesome was last Sunday's The New York Times Style Magazine?! I especially LOVED the spread with Taylor Swift. The cover was totally amazing, bright colors and great makeup on that face! Her look reminded me a bit of Alice in Wonderland. I'm always looking new ways to do my eye shadow and I think I just found my next inspiration. The styling was superb- the bold colors, sparkle and amazing SHOES! I died and went to heaven!

Homemade Stuffing is a Joy!

A glimpse into my Thanksgiving dinner contribution. Got this amazing Lemon Barley Stuffing with Shiitakes, Hazelnuts and Chive Butter recipe from the New York Times. It was my first time making stuffing and using/eating chives. The end result was delicious, very hearty and the Hazelnuts gave it a delightful crunch! My grocery store did not sell Shiitake Mushrooms so I substituted them with Portabella and Baby Bella Mushrooms.

I would like to cook this again, if only it did not take more than one hour to make. Maybe if I had a sous chef to shell the nuts and chop the vegetables it wouldn't be so bad.

Mos Def the Sagittarius

Snoopy, how I love you.

Here are the goods, as promised. The show was amazing, one of the best I've attended. The ganja was in the air, the music was loud and the fans were feeling the man. He performed the classics and a few from his upcoming album Malice in Wonderland, which btw will be out 3 days before my birthday on December 8th!

One of the most memorable parts was the introduction, check it out......

Glad he opened the show with my favorite song "Next Episode!"

But the most memorable moment was when Snoop brought out this posse to rock with him onstage: Too Short, Mr. Fab, Dj Quik, Rapper 4 Tay, Suga T of the Clique, and Lady Rage. I shit my pants because on the way to the show I said to my love, "Do you think Snoop will have guests with him?" and he said "Maybe Mr. Fab," and I responded and I kid you not, "I'll give you $20 if Too Short comes out as well." Luckily I did not have to give him the doug because he guessed Mr. Fab so we were both right, but damn was I surprised!

Here they are all onstage. My third favorite part was the pimp that was with them, check him out on the left. He was wearing a long fur coat with a matching fur hat. No pimp cane though...

Health Come My Way

This photo is pretty accurate of what I've been doing lately, drinking copious amounts of tea. I've had a cold for the past four days or so and it's pretty annoying. This of course did not deter me from going to see my fucking idol Snoop Dogg. The show was one of the best I've been to and I took video footage of almost all of his performance. I'll holler when I upload them on my Youtube Channel. Until then, I'm gonna go back to chillen on my bed.

I had such a good time blogging and uploading videos this morning while relaxing in bed that I've decided to change the name of my blog for shits and giggles. It was so relaxing to do it from the warmth of my three blankets piled up on my cold legs and with a cup of tea at my bed side. Life could not get better, well yes it could but this is pretty cool.

From now on I will ONLY blog in the softness of my sheets and be inspired by the comfort of my bed.

As much as I dislike attention I LOVE birthdays. This year is a special one since I'll be turning 25 and my family wants to throw me a huge bash. I won't pass up that opportunity since I can't deny my beautiful family, nor my uncle's delicious food.

Sunday Breakfast

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day because I usually wake up very hungry. I especially love eating eggs and any type of sweet pastry. Lately I've been hitting up Alana's Cafe on Sunday mornings. Alana's is located on this property and you can chose to dine inside a cute Victorian house or on the patio, which I prefer because the view is so pretty.

I did not get any photos of the Victorian house because there were too many people in the way, but you get the idea of how awesome this place is and how delicious the food is. The coffee cake is especially good and warm when you order it.
